The Teruah is a multifaceted divinely anointed back and forth spiritual interchange between God and His covenant people. It occurs as a warning, a call to assemble for guidance in a time of transition. It is a call to repentance, reconciliation, and restoration. The Teruah is an outflow of divine grace in an time when the called out company are about to cross an epic threshold from their present waypoint into a new realm up ahead that is sensed but yet unseen.

The Feast of Trumpets or Yom Teruah is an alarm
Yom Teruah is the Day of the Teruah

Yom Teruah is the more Biblical name for the Feast of Trumpets. The rehearsal or divine appointment is known in Jewish circles as Rosh Hashanah. The Hebrew word Teruah comes with some very rich and inspiring connections. In this video we look into the etymology, the meaning, and the message packed away in the word Teruah. The word in Hebrew does not mean trumpet.

We go on to discern the character and message of the teruah, not only in the call to remembrance in the blowing of the shofar blast but also in the element of alarm in the musical character of the Teruah, the staccato nature of the teruah shofar blast, the jangling alarm clock, the rattling sound of the military snare drum, the sharp shout of exaltation, (like the shout that brought the walls of Jericho down). The Teruah is mentioned 36 times in Holy Scripture typically in the context of alarm, the military bugle call of awakening, a call to muster, and in the exaltation of God we hear in the dramatic clashing of cymbals. The Teruah is also to be found in what the Scriptures declare to be "the joyful sound".
